Valentine’s Day Diorama
With this Valentine’s Day diorama, I think the Diorama Lady has shifted from simply portraying a holiday theme to making a political statement. We are presented with only two figures in this tableaux of love and romance, and I’m pretty sure they’re both female. Rather than embracing each other, they appear anxious and are separated by a giant heart, as if the very nature of their love keeps them separate. It’s quite obvious, to me anyway, that the artist is clearly showing her opposition to one of the past election’s most controversial topics: California’s Proposition 8. That’s right, the Diorama Lady has tackled the complex subject of same sex marriage. Of course, it’s entirely possible that the figure on the right with the page-boy haircut is not a butch lesbian, but is in fact Clay Aiken.
Oh, and don’t you just want to grab a big, red Sharpie and put an apostrophe in “VALENTINES” for her?

I think she is really a vanguard and taking a quite a risk. The town that she is displaying this in is Cutlass Supremes and Zubaz – not really open to alternative lifestyles.
Kudos to Diorama Lady.

I think it’s a pop culture reference. The doll on the right, like you said is Clay Aiken, and the doll on the right is Jaymes Foster, Aikens “platonic baby-making partner”.

The Aiken-Foster situation did occur to me during the creative process, but I’d rather think about lesbians than Clay Aiken’s 90 seconds or less of heterosexuality.

BTW Drew, I’m glad to know that Zubaz found a home after it was finally extirpated from New Jersey.

Lets not ignore the obviously pro-bestiality message diorama lady is sending with all of those stuffed animals in there.
Also, where was the inauguration day diorama?

As an educator I have my Sharpie ready…perhaps the greeting card industry should take note or at least be consistent….aha …now I have you folk checking out the Hallmark aisle….but I do love the Diorama Lady and the blog…

IRT to the Inauguration Day Dio – she does do a President’s Day treatment – lets see if she adds to her doll collection for that.

I think it has a sort of taboo / Chuckie / Stargate quality.

I too am disappointed that there is no Daylight Savings Time Diorama.
Ohhh the fun she could have with that.
